Argentine Tango + Photo Show + Organic Food & Drink
Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 7:00 PM to 11:55 PM (EDT)
Can you dance argentine tango to electronic music? Can a burger & cocktail be healthy? Can a photo be more interesting than a painting? Can a cookie be healthier than a salad?
On Saturday, April 30, Funxion (http://www.funxion.com/welcome/funxion.html) is hosting an event that will make you question the very nature of your reality - at a massive discount. With advance tickets, you get $35+ worth of food, drink, art, and entertainment for $20.
7-8: Beginner Tango Lesson: Get rid of any Hollywood images of roses in the mouth, or that silly frippery they teach in ballroom dance classes. This is the real Argentine tango –
the dance first developed in the brothels of Buenos Aires, that a century of innovation and experimentation have developed into the most subtle, nuanced, and interesting dance in the world. No partner necessary.
8-11:30 Tango Party + Art Photo Show. This isn’t just a milonga (tango party). This is an elegant party that also has an Argentine tango section (a small dance floor on the balcony level – Argentine style). Plenty of areas to socialize, look at art, eat, drink, etc. Imagine a really fun night at a super elegant bar + art gallery, plus tango. Plenty of art, food, drink, etc. for non-tango dancers.
The Tango music itself witll be half traditional, half modern electronic Argentine tango music. Featuring Narcotango, Gotan Project, etc.
Funxion Food + Drink: Funxion has discovered the secret to an amazing cocktail. Take the best quality organic ingredients, and then blend it in the perfect ratios. Obviously, these cocktails are pretty pricey. But on April 30, one organic cocktail, or one non-alc organic smoothie, is included in the ticket price.
Their appetizers range from bison sliders to tofu chili to grilled chicken strips to portabello sandwiches. On April 30, appetizers are also included in the ticket price.
Food for Thin ( http://www.FoodforThin.com/ ): By using outrageously expensive ingredients like almond flour, coconut nectar, Guittard cocoa powder, Food for Thin creates desserts that are literally healthier than salads, but taste better than any regular dessert. The dark chocolate raspberry brownies and double chocolate cookies will make an atheist believe in God. Obviously, those desserts are expensive. But on April 30, they are also included in the ticket price.
Calling Rachel Lincoln ( http://www.photosbydawn.com/ ) a rising star in the art photo world is like calling Vladimir Putin a rising star in the scaring-the-hell-out-of-everyone world. At the 5 Star Restaurant Proof, they were so stunned by her work that they actually replaced the digital slideshow from the American Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum with a 3 week Rachel Lincoln solo show. She was also featured in the Examiner and on 365 Things to See in DC. Not only will her amazing photography be on display, but you will also get a signed Rachel Lincoln postcard. You can frame that and give it to your grandkids. Also included in the ticket price.
Bonus: Discount on any art purchases that night. Every time Rachel Lincoln sells a photograph, it gets numbered. 1 for the first copy, 2 for the second, etc. Anything with a number less than 100 will double and triple in value as her career develops, and anything numbered less than 10 will be a treasured heirloom (Rachel is 23, and already represented by one of the top arts firms in the country). But some of the photos for sale that night will be numbered 1. When you see the photos, you will understand just how significant that is.
Anything you buy that night, you get $25 off. That will more than pay for the $20 ticket price.
Whether you want to impress the hell out of a date, or treat yourself to a once in a decade experience, don’t miss this event. Tickets go on sale April 1. $20 in advance, $35 at the door.
